Old Chair, New Look
I’ve had this chair for at least 30 years. It was physically in great shape. It rolled well, the fabric was mostly intact, it was sturdy, but… it was ugly.
I was trying to sell it at my garage sale for a whopping $2.00. It was a slow part of a hot day. I sat in my garage, trying to stay cool, as I looked out over the stuff that wasn’t selling, dreading having to pull it all back inside at the end of the day. It had been slow for a while and I was bored. There’s not a lot to do while you have a garage sale.
So as I looked out over all of my junk, I let my imagination go (not that I generally have any control over it) and it occurred to me that I could recover the chair, oh and I knew just the fabric. I do have a small staff of fabric in my studio.
Then I started thinking of color combinations and spray paint I had for the frame. By the time the garage sale was over, I had taken the whole chair apart and removed all of the old materials. It didn’t take much time after that to paint the frame and recover the cushions.
Now it’s my happy chair for the garage. I spend a fair bit of time out there so it’s nice to have a happy chair out there.
